Posted by Symbianizer | Filed under Nokia, S60 3rd Edition, Symbian
Nokia’s newest Nseries device, the N81 8GB, is an update to the N91, one of the first smartphones to have 8GB of internal storage capacity. This slider is also one of the initial handsets that supports both the Nokia Music Store that just launched in the UK recently, as well as the upcoming N-Gage platform. Pitched as a music phone, with its dedicated playback keys and whopping 8GB of internal storage, does the Nokia N81 8GB stand up to its predecessor?

The Nokia N81 8GB is a truly exciting smartphone combining the power of Symbian 9.2 OS spiced up with the new N-Gage platform. What we have in N81 8GB is entertainment and multimedia unleashed. Not only does its specs sheet impress, but it promises tons of fun.

Down-to-earth Nokia 6120 Classic Symbian Phone
Posted by Symbianizer | Filed under Nokia, S60 3rd Edition, Symbian
Nokia announced a new mid-range S60 smartphone today, complete with HSDPA high-speed data access. The new Nokia 6120 Classic belongs to neither the multimedia N Series, nor the business E series of the Finnish brand. Good at the essentials, it’s set of features can’t be clearly linked to a particular target of users. The “Classic” attribute refers to the phone’s conservative design. On the other hand, Nokia 6120 features functions far more sophisticated than what you’d expect in this price category.

Two cameras are present on the 6120 Classic: a front-facing unit for video calling, and a 2.0 megapixel rearward-facing sensor with 4x digital zoom for easy photography. Nokia’s 6120 Classic is designed with ease of use in mind, and the full S60 smartphone UI accomplishes this well, including contact management, a calendar, task list, email access, and other tools to make managing your life easy. One of the biggest draw cards for the device is its HSDPA compatibility, delivering up to 10 times faster data speeds than normal WCDMA networks.
Key features
- Conservative and elegant design
- Impeccable construction
- Symbian 9.2, S60 3rd Edition graphic upgrade and Feature Pack
- Remarkable size and weight for a smartphone
- 2-megapixel camera without autofocus
- Instant response of user interface
- Brilliant QVGA display with reflexive surface
- 35 MB of internal memory, microSD card slot
- GPRS, EDGE, HSCSD, UMTS, HSDPA
- Document viewer: Quickoffice and PDF
- Bluetooth with A2DP support
- Solid and robust body
- MiniUSB connector
- Very good keypad
- Voice recorder with 60-minute limit
Main disadvantages
- No Wi-Fi
- No “pencil” key
- Susceptible to fingerprints
- No indication of missed events after certain period of time
- Navigation and operation keys not ergonomic enough

Total Multimedia Phone Nokia N93
Posted by Symbianizer | Filed under Nokia, S60 3rd Edition, Symbian
Nokia N90 was the first auto-focus camera phone for the Finnish company and we were really impressed by it. Now the N93 ups the ante and brings 3x optical zoom in a phone to the masses. Running on the 3rd Edition of the S60 user interface and equipped with a 3.2 megapixel camera sensor, the N93 is set to rock the world of mobile phones. As if that’s not enough, the N93 also features TV-out, which you can use to display your pictures and videos on your home TV. Users of the N90 will be glad to know that the N93 has the vibrate function missing from the old N90.

Key features:
- 3 megapixel camera with autofocus and 3x optical zoom
- Video recording in VGA resolution@30fps
- Twist and Shoot clamshell form factor
- Symbian OS 9.1 S60 3rd Edition UI
- miniSD card slot
- Stereo FM radio
- 50 MB internal memory
- Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, USB, Infrared, UPnP and TV-out connectivity options
- Rather comfortable keyboard
Main disadvantages:
- Large and heavy
- Picture and video quality not so great
- Optical zoom buzzing gets recorded in videos
The Nokia N93 is a fantastic phone, and apart from the slow camera UI, I really have nothing much to complain about. Although some might be put off by the sheer size and bulk of this behemoth, those who don’t mind it will find the N93 a truly capable imaging phone.
With 3G and WiFi connectivity, the N93 is definitely the all-in-one smartphone to get. I have no qualms in giving this phone a Highly Recommended rating, but if you feel that the price tag is too steep, and you don’t need all the bulk and connectivity, you might want to take a look at the Sony Ericsson K800i or K790i.
